Meet Mrs. VanderSchaaff- Principal of East Union
Mrs. VanderSchaaff joined the Deer Lakes School District Administrative Team in August 2019 as the principal of East Union Intermediate Center. Mrs. VanderSchaaff obtained her undergraduate degree in Education from Slippery Rock University. She has certification in both Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (K-12). After teaching for several years she worked to earn her Master's Degree in Leadership from California University of Pennsylvania (now Penn West University) and also acquired her Administrative Certificate.
Prior to joining the Deer Lakes Administrative Team, Mrs. VanderSchaaff was a teacher at East Union from 2003-2019. During those 16 years, she worked in two capacities. For the first eight years, she taught fourth-grade Language Arts. From there she taught special education for the next eight years. In addition to her years of teaching experience, she worked as East Union's Lead Teacher for over 10 years.
Mrs. VanderSchaaff was a Deer Lakes graduate herself and resides in the school district with her family. She has a passion for leaving things better than she found them. She has worked hard to bring the PBIS program to East Union Intermediate Center. She enjoys finding ways to meet learners where they are and putting her creative touch on things!
